District Plowing: Flashing yellow and blue lights

What do the flashing yellow and blue lights on top of our road maintenance equipment really mean?

Colorado law (C.R.S. 42-4-214) states that yellow and blue flashing lights on top of our road equipment indicates an official snowplow or ice-removal vehicle is actively performing winter maintence.  These flashing lights:

  • Indicate Extreme Hazard: heavy public works vehicle is plowing or sanding the road.
  • Provide Improved visibility: Blue lights improve visibility in heavy blowing snow, fog, and darkness.
  • Ask the public to maintain a safe driving distance.
  • And remind us that during this time, our operators may need to suddenly cross over the middle of the road or shift unexpectedly around road edges; or may be using a wide blade or extended side wings ( if using a grader).

Please Drive with Caution and Stay Back.
