May 29, 2026 - Heartbreaking Moose News
We are sad to announce that the baby moose on Opal did not survive. Two Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) officers were on site to move the baby into the grass near the Forrester’s driveway.
They warn that we all need to be very aware and use caution in the Opal/Emerald area. The mom may hang around for a few days – she will be upset and could easily be provoked. Please keep your dog on leash, and remember that the baby also leaves behind a scent that attracts predators – bear, wolf, coyotes.

And while we are on this sad topic, please remember that Colorado law prohibits placing salt blocks to attract or feed wildlife. Salt blocks are associated with Chronic Wasting Disease, which is in our area, and which can devastate our deer, elk, and moose neighbors. You can learn more about CWD at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife web page.
