Red Flag Warnings should trigger Ready Set Go Intro
Red flag warnings mean that there is significant risk for an explosive wildfire within the next 24 hours:
· Low humidity and dry fuel moisture
· High temperatures
· High wind speeds
The goal of this month’s newsletter is to remind you that a Red Flag Warning should trigger your Ready, Set, Go action list.
The International Association of Fire Chiefs has assembled a great document that puts it all together. Some key points:
1. Before a red flag warning:
a. Work to prepare your home for a wildfire. You may not have time during a red flag warning – have your home wildfire ready all season.
b. Have your go-bag ready and practice your family communication plan.
c. Make sure your car has a full tank of gas or is fully charged.
2. During a red flag warning:
a. Check again to make sure your home is wildfire ready – gutters remain clean, home ignition zone is clear, etc.
b. Maintain good situational awareness – follow weather reports and news.
c. Be ready to go!
