VISITING LLAMAS AT RUBY RANCH

We want to let you know that the metro district pastures are hosting 4 llamas that are part of the Wildland Restoration Volunteers (WRV) program. The llamas are supporting US Forest Service projects in the Eagle’s Nest Wilderness Area.  They will be in and out of the pastures near the barn during the month of July. There will also be a stock trailer parked at the barn while the llamas are in residence. WRV has local volunteers who will check on the llamas when they are in the pastures between projects.

The llamas will arrive late on July 6 and will leave sometime around July 23.  Our fences are not sufficient to keep the llamas in the pastures, so they will be picketed on long lines (exact locations will be set this weekend) where they have access to grass and water. These working llamas are accustomed to their picket lines.

Please use caution around the llamas – they are not pets. Llamas are generally friendly to people, but not dogs. They may let you pet them but are likely to object if you try to put your hands near their heads.  Llamas are well-equipped to protect themselves effectively from canines in all forms and WRV asks people who walk by the pastures or see them on the road or trails to keep their dogs well back from the llamas.

Please let Jim know if you see a llama loose in the ranch so the WRV local staff can return it to its pasture.  Please let Randy know if you if have concerns about this arrangement.
